Tourist Visas Apply to:
a) Lecturers at conferences.
b) Visit relatives and/or friends.
c) Unpaid participation in athletic or artistic event or competition (in this case an invitation letter from the sponsoring organization is Brazil is required).
d) Unpaid participation in a scientific/academic seminar or conference sponsored by a research or academic institution (in this case an invitation letter from the sponsoring organization in Brazil is required).

Photocopy of round trip ticket to Brazil or ticket in transit, with flight numbers, dates and itinerary. Instead of a ticket, the Embassy will also accept a signed letter from the carrier or travel agent, on company letterhead, with the name of the vessel (in case of ships), itinerary, dates of arrival in and departure from Brazil.

Airline employees or persons on standby with open tickets must present tickets with itinerary and an airline ID card (or a signed letter from the airline on company letterhead), with the name of the employee and his/her itinerary.

In case of self employed, student or unemployed, a statement of earnings or a copy of last year’s income tax from spouse or parents is acceptable.   Temporary Visa I (Cultural)
Requirements
Temporary Visas I (Cultural) Apply to:

a) Researchers.
b) Teachers.
c) Exchange students.
d) Participants in cultural/ scientific missions (the services provided must not be paid by organizations/ corporations established in Brazil, except for per-diem allowance).
e) Voluntary workers and to athletes under 21 who participate in training programs in Brazil.
f) Participants in scientific expeditions, or those operating in indian reservations. In this case an authorization from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), or from the National Foundation for Indigenous People (FUNAI) is mandatory.
g) Participants in scientific expeditions that involve bioprospecting. In this case, an authorization from the Ministry of Environment (MMA) is mandatory.
h) Medical doctors and dentists participating in assistential missions in Brazil. In this case an authorization from the corresponding Regional Council of Medicine or Odontology is mandatory.

IMPORTANT: As some temporary cultural visas to Brazil depend on prior approval of the Brazilian Immigration services, the application should be submitted 6-8 weeks before the intended date of departure.

Additional requirements for voluntary work with religious or social assistance organizations in Brazil (as per normative resolution 68/05):
a) Letter of invitation from the organization in Brazil, stating the condition of voluntary (no remuneration whatsoever shall be paid).
b) Document characterizing the place where services will be lent and description of the activities that shall be performed.
c) Affidavit from the organization in Brazil pledging responsibility for the financial support of the candidate and his/her return to the country of origin (Canada) upon completion of the mission.
d) Proof of Health insurance valid in Brazil (copy of original policy or detailed receipt proving purchase of such insurance. Letters from travel agents shall not be accepted).
e) Record of constitution of the organization in Brazil: social statute and records of designation of the current board of directors.
f) Proof of the registration of the organization in the corresponding Council of Social Assistance or in the Ministry of Justice.
g) Proof that the organization is functioning regularly.
h) Written official statement from the organization appointing the applicant for the designated mission as a volunteer, signed by a duly authorized representative.
i) Document proving the professional experience or qualification of the volunteer regarding to the proposed activities in Brazil.

b) Media coverage or filming. If the filming expedition is intended for reasons other than journalism or news gathering, issuing the visa depends on prior authorization from the Ministry of Culture in Brazil. For such, the applicant must find a Brazilian co-producer who shall obtain that authorization.
c) Flight/ship crew members not holding an international crew card. For services under a consulting or technical assistance contract and for persons working aboard cruise ships, see Temporary Visas V (Temporary work)
d) Adoptions.

  Temporary Visas V (Temporary work)
Requirements
Temporary Visas V (Temporary work) Apply to:

This Visa is applied for in Brazil at the General Coordination for Immigration of the Ministry of Labor (see address below) by the prospective employer, who will inform the applicant of the documents required according to the specific type of contract. Once the contract has been authorized, the Embassy will be notified and the visa can then be issued.
As per Normative Resolution 61/04 of the National Council for Immigration, persons rendering technical assistance to companies in Brazil should apply for a Temporary Work Visa in Brazil at the General Coordination of Immigration of the Ministry of Labor (addresses and telephone numbers indicated below).
Exceptionally, in cases of real emergency, where unforeseen circumstances intervene, the Consular authority might grant that type of visa, valid for thirty days only and not renewable as per the text of article #7 of the said legal text. Persons working aboard cruise ships should also apply for a Work Visa with the Ministry of Labor in Brazil.

  Permanent Visas
Requirements
Permanent Visas Apply to:

NOTE: Permanent visas may be granted to individuals intending to establish residence in Brazil.
a) Technicians or professionals with a work contract pre-approved by the Brazilian Ministry of Labor, National Department of Employment. This visa must be applied for in Brazil.
b) Professors, technicians and high level researchers who wish to immigrate to Brazil to undertake research work in an institution of higher learning or of research in science and technology. This visa must be applied for in Brazil.
c) Foreign investors with initial transfer of foreign capital equivalent to no less than US$ 50.000.00 and an investment plan pre-approved by the Brazilian National Council on Immigration (CMIG). This visa must be applied for in Brazil.
d) Administrators, managers or directors hired by a commercial enterprise or civil organization resulting from foreign investment described in item 3 above, with a work contract pre-approved by the Brazilian Ministry of Labor, National Department of Employment. This visa must be applied for in Brazil.
e) A retired person, sixty (60) years of age or older, accompanied by up to two dependents, and able to transfer monthly, in accordance with the laws of the country of origin, the amount equivalent to US$ 2,000.00. In the case of more than two dependents, the applicant must transfer the amount equivalent to US$ 1.000.00 for each additional dependent.
f) Spouse, partners in a common law union regardless of gender, or minor dependent of Brazilian citizen or of a permanent resident of Brazil;
g) Ascendants of a Brazilian national or of a permanent resident of Brazil;
h) Siblings of a Brazilian citizen or of a permanent resident of Brazil, if orphan, single and under 18 years of age;
i) Minor children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren of a Brazilian citizen or of a permanent resident of Brazil.

Requirements
Applicants for Permanent Visa for the purpose of family reunion (items must submit the following documents to the Embassy:

(A) Required from the applicant:
a) Certified photocopy of passport (must be valid for at least 6 months prior to its expiration date. It must have at least two blank pages available).
b) Visa application form.
c) One passport sized, color photograph.
d) Birth certificate or, if sponsored by spouse or common law partner, marriage certificate or document that proves the stable relationship; if sponsored by parent, grandparent, sibling or offspring, submit birth certificate and proof of blood relationship.
e) Police report showing that the candidate has no criminal records.
f) Proof of residence within the Embassy's jurisdiction (Ottawa, Toronto or Vancouver) for the last 12 months.
g) If the applicant is head of family, proof of employment or of job offer from Brazil, detailing job title, duration of contract and salary.

(B) Required from sponsor:
a) Photocopy of Brazilian ID card.
b) Photocopy of CIC or CPF card (issued by the Brazilian Revenue Service).
c) Voter identification card (not applicable if the sponsor is not a Brazilian citizen).
d) Proof of latest submission of income tax forms to the Brazilian Revenue Service or proof of exemption.
e) If the sponsor is head of family, proof of employment or of job offer from Brazil, detailing job title, duration of contract and salary.
f) Legalized affidavit pledging to provide support and livelihood to applicant while in Brazil.
With the exception of items 2 and 3 of (A) above, any document issued abroad must be legalized (originals) or authenticated (copies) by the Brazilian Consular Office in the jurisdiction of which they were issued.
The documents are submitted to the appreciation of the Brazilian Immigration services, whose response usually arrives in 30 days. After the Embassy has been authorized to issue the visa, the applicant must submit again his/her passport and pay the visa fee.
